CLAIRE, she said her name was - with an "i" and "e" (and probably a wee smiley face in the dot above the "i", I reckon). The moment I met you, I swear, I croon to her. She looks puzzled for a second, then tells me her dad used to sing that to her. She's always thought he made it up - how do I know about it? Pop song, I tell her. From the '70s. She must have heard it? I mean, if your name's Claire, you must have heard that track before. I try explaining, but the night's starting to take its toll, and all I can remember is that it was by some muppety-looking guy in a cap. And at the back of my mind is the idea that I'm old enough to be her
