Crossing the last field at the end of a long walk

Depending on which app you believe this was at the end of either an 8.4 or 9.6 mile walk from Linton to Yalding and back - the same one as we did in January this year. To Barbara and David this was a mere amble in the sun, they having completed a 21 mile marathon not so long ago.

This is the first time we've done the walk in summer and it gave a whole new perspective. The myriad of apple and fruit orchards were laden with fruit, the corn dry and proud and the oilseed harvest in full flow.

Hot in places, but cooler in the woods, we were sustained by a cooling pint half way around at the Walnut Tree in Yalding and the good solid foundation of a cooked breakfast at The Village Hotel. It's where we go to the gym but they were having a special offer of "all you can eat" breakfast for £5.95 which seemed good value and indeed was a very acceptable breakfast.

After breakfast we staggered over to the coffee shop for a real coffee and a natter until all of a sudden it was midday and the planned walk was beckoning.

It all worked very well, called in to buy sausages and burgers for an inpromptu barbeque when we got home which tasted very good. Why is it that these infallible charcoal lighting chimneys don't work with me? You are supposed to be able to light your briquettes with just one sheet of newspaper, it works with me eventually, but always on the third attepmt.
