Wooden Boardwalk at Bald Eagle State Park

Summertime is sliding into mid-August, and we are doing our best to fit in all the traditional summer activities we can. The weather for this day was predicted to be a hall-of-famer, so our original plan was to go to a state park that is a bit further away than we usually go, and swim in an outdoor swimming pool.

But when we got up Sunday morning, it was overcast and gray, and we even saw a few sprinkles of rain. So we amended our plans, and decided to have our day's adventures a bit closer to home. We went back to a lovely, charming, old-fashioned park, Bald Eagle State Park, where we swam most recently on Friday of last weekend.

It was cool enough in the morning that we were able to take a short hike through the woods. Our hike took us along the ridge, down through a green woods, and finally to the edge of the lake, where we spent some time on one of my favorite wooden boardwalks. The boardwalk is tucked in behind one of the campgrounds, but I suspect there are many campers who never even know it is there.

The clouds were starting to break up, and the sun was beginning to come out, so we hiked back to the car and headed for the beach area, where we ended up swimming under a fully sunny sky. The water felt marvelous, and we swam for quite a while before wrapping up our day at the park and heading for home.

The song: Since it's Sunday, and it's summertime, how about The Sundays, with Summertime?
