Traces of the old Arusha Hotel

The Arusha Hotel claims to have been founded in 1894, as a rest house for German colonial officials and farmers in the newly established German Colony of Tanganyika.

It has been rebuilt several times in German, British Mandate and Tanzanian times since then.

These appear to be the oldest elements still surviving. The dutch gable on the end of a long hall or ball-room, and the decorations on the building in the front. The gardens of the Hotel remain as a welcome relief from the bustle of central Arusha.
