Sunday 2 August 2009: The Ancient and the Innovative
We went for a wonderful walk today to the Great Wall.. It was a very peaceful nature walk ending with a lunch at a very old remnant of the Great Wall. This section of the wall is on the border of Inner Mongolia Province and Shanxi Province. One side of the wall is Shanxi, the other Inner MOngolia. This section was originally built by the Shanxi people to stop the Mongolian sheep and cattle from grazing on the Shanxi land. LAter it was used fro warfare purposes.
recently, because of the strong, constant winds in Shanxi, the government has started an electricity project using the wind. I thought it was an amazing conrast to have both ancient and new so close to each other.
