Heir Island

A blipper's day out, fantastic weather, gorgeous scenery, white beaches, clear water, it was absolute heaven, not like the last time we visited Hare Island. (The two spellings seem to be interchangeable, I am not sure why).

This time Freespiral, BAT, and Freespiral's Himself and I enjoyed a pleasant walk to the far side of the island, seeing lots of butterflies and hillsides gaudy with gorse and heather, and fantastic views in all directions of other islands and the Mizen Head peninsula marching off into the distance.
We sat on the cliff edge for a while and heard strange singing on the wind, and you could so easily believe it was the cry of the mermaid....

On the way back we picnicked on a beautiful deserted beach, Freespiral went for a swim, I paddled.

This was taken looking off the north shore of the island. The old ruin is on an adjacent island, East Skeem, and in the far distance you can see Kilcoe Castle at the head of Roaring Water Bay.
