nonsenses & truths

Name and shame

Some activity this week with the bicycle user group at work. This is part of a new route through campus which has appeared out of someone's arse. The University of Warwick and/or Sustrans* are responsible for this stupid and dangerous addition - a right turn for cyclists on a 90 degree left hand bend on to a pavement (I give them enough credit to assume they plan to put in a lowered curb) when there is a perfectly good junction to the right literally 10 seconds ride around the corner.

The constant (and I'm talking nationwide now) obsession with removing cyclists from the road leads me to the conclusion that many of our cycle routes are designed to benefit the motorist rather than the cyclist, and that the designers have never been near a bike.

Rant over. Well, for today.

* The University claims to have consulted them.
