The house that Heinrich and Cecile built ..

Building and construction work on the house for Cecile and Heinrich started the beginning of May.

The builders and construction workers have managed to stay mostly ahead of schedule and there was little rain to hamper these proceedings.

Apart from a strike, work went ahead as planned.

In the southern hemisphere, where our winter sun comes from the northern side, it is desirable to have as many windows possibly facing north to allow for winter warmth.

The position of the erf (ground) allowed for a home facing east/west which meant hot in summer and icy cold in winter.

This problem was mostly overcome by designing the house plan in a U-form, thus creating extra wall surfaces that faced north, and placing as many windows on the northern sides as possible.

What can be seen from the image (eastern side) is the middle section which will house the living room and kitchen; to the left are the garages, with the loft which will be used as a studio by Cecile. This section extends to the front - it is obscured, and has 2 bedrooms, bathrooms and a study/office.
The section closest to the camera has a bedroom, bathroom and study/office.

At the moment the roof is being placed while plastering has commenced.

Inside, the house is airy and light and I am sure that it will make a great place for living.
