Kirk

Afternoon all,

I like the silent church before the service begins, better than any preaching - Ralph Waldo Emerson

St Bridget's Kirk......so close to the river, you can sit on the church wall and dip your feet in the water !!

Kirk's like this were susceptible to graverobbers, providing bodies for Edinburgh's Medical College. The small stone house to the left of the Kirk was for family to stay and watch over their loved ones.

The oldest grave stone that's readable is 1681........Scotland's Chancellor was buried here in 1622, attended by 11 Earls. He was interred inside the Kirk. There is a crypt inside but many men would be required to lift the slab in place. Hope there's no other family wishing to be interred here !!! ;0)

Never fear the dead, its the living that you should be scared off - Mamma G's Dad

Its a beautiful wee Kirk.

Have a great day ;0)

TTFN ;0)
