The Unexplained Bore Stone

When I read in the evening paper that the plaque for the Bore Stone had been regilded for the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Flodden I thought it would make a topical blip, if a couple of days late. The stone is reputed to mark the place where the Royal Standard was raised before the troops departed for battle.

It seems I was too hasty; the plaque is still absent from its usual position.

The recent attention appears to be a waste of time as, according to RCHM:
The Stone's traditional attribution has been proven incorrect as James IV set out from Edinburgh before the standards were ready.
