Pike O'Stickle

We awoke to a glorious sunny morning and took the bus to Dungeon Ghyll in the Langdale Valley, from where we took one of the less frequented routes, past Stickle Tarn, up to the prominent peak of Harrison Stickle from which this shot of the Pike o'Stickle was taken. Hearing for the first time the expression 'Peak Bagging' I decided to bag as many as I could myself!! I quickly added Pavey Ark, Thunacar Knott and High Raise to a list that I hope will continue to grow in the coming years. From this ridge we were offered a 360 degree panorama of the entire Cumbrian mountain range, with views to all the famous peaks.

We were aiming to return to Grasmere, which was a straightforward walk down the valley, but somehow, in the hands of Earthdreamer, we went by a longer route, with lots of ups and downs, finally ending up on the distinctive summit rocks of Helm Crag. From there it was a steep descent to the village, again arrivng just as it got really dark and just after the bus to Ambleside had left. No worries as we spent the hour's wait in a local hostelry.
