By train to the Alps

After a journey involving five trains, two buses and a short car journey – we arrived in Leukerbad high in the Swiss mountains exactly on time.

This trip is to Switzerland recreating another 19th Century travel epic. Last month I visited lots of the places that John Franklin visited (and some he never reached) along Canada’s Northwest Passage (blips from that trip start on 13th August), this time I and SusannaHelen are repeating (at least some of) the first Thomas Cook tour to Switzerland in 1863. There’s a bit more about both Franklin and the Cook’s tour on my blog.

There was just time for a short walk around Leukerbad to see the surrounding mountains before dinner.
