Lord Of The Haws

I've broken the first rule for shooting bugs with this pic but rules are meant to be broken. :)

I remember reading when I first started photographing insects not to capture them from directly above but I think this shows the beautiful markings and camouflaging colours of this hawthorn shield bug better than the ones I took at a jaunty angle. I was delighted to get a haw in shot too.

I'm intrigued by the scientific name, Acanthosoma haemorrhoidale. Sounds like it's something to do with piles but I haven't been able to find out. Suppose it's referring to the blood red colouring.
