Seeing Music

Today DJ, Aiden and Kaelyn came down from Vancouver to visit. We have known this family since Aiden was under a year old. Now he is ten and his sister Kaelyn is six. DJ is their dad. We love this family and think of the three kids (Nikki was up in Vancouver doing community service as part of her high school curriculum) as our pseudo grand kids. My brother Steve came over too. We all headed downtown Bellingham for pizza at Goat Mountain Pizza and a couple of hours at Mindport where the kids (and grown up kids) all played with the neat hands on exhibits they have. This one is about sound being transformed into light. Aiden was working the machine when I took this picture. The colored lights change according to the music or by flicking a switch, according to the sounds in the museum. Mindport is a wonderful place for kids to explore and it has a gallery. That's where the PAPO paintings are hanging. (I blipped the opening of the show awhile back.)

After a good play time we all drove up to our house for some good conversation and games together. Finally it was time for the family to head home. Steve, Arvin, Helena and I had soup and salad for dinner and then Steve and I played a game of Carcassonne while Arvin and Helena read. We finished off the evening with a bit of TV. It was a lovely day.
