Conservation Farming

On our farms we use no artificial fertiliser, no chemical pesticides, and no genetically modified seeds, but we do use open pollinated seeds.
We keep the ground covered as you see here and just till by digging little basins and putting-in compost and farmyard manure.
The basins prepared today will have the seeds dropped in and covered on the first day of the real rains, as yield drops for each day's delay.
This overall system conserves moisture, prevents run-off and erosion and improves soil quality.
It is an excellent weapon against Global Warming.
In most of Malawi these stalks are burned!!
