Living Legend

A super selection of the sculptural marvels of Anish Kapoor is currently exhibited at the Sabanci Museum just a couple of km along the Bosphorus from school and was my destination this afternoon, with Erica, Darcy and Shirin after a morning fragment spent at school talking to the parents of the still-very-new Prep year students.

The collection was beautiful. Exquisite. Deceptively simple and visually deceptive, going in close was often visually disorientating - one piece in particular called yellow made us feel really weird when up close. Exhibiting such large and immovable objects must have been a real challenge for the curator and museum staff. As well as those works that burrowed into the very fabric of the walls, many of the pieces were made of marble so highly polished and smooth that it was a great temptation to stroke the surface - but hovering attendants were there to keep us all at bay! Other pieces exhibited in the gardens outside had a highly polished mirrored surface such as this one which I loved for its location, reflecting Istanbul 's Bosphorus and the sunny blue skies on this beautiful September day.

Btw, today is Maddy's tenth birthday and we chatted earlier via skype - I am really looking forward to seeing her and my nephews in a couple of weeks time after seven months since my last trip home.
