My Long Term Memory

Day of thunderstorm

holiday, Day 3. at Kalymnos, Greece

We have rented scooter for few days. Already we have been in Lazy day cruse by "pirate" -ship, saw Kalymnos from sea, Island of Pserimos white beaches and wild Dolphins in deep blue sea. Amazing experience!

In couple of days we have learned that Island of Kalymnos is small and full of picturesque villages. Life here is slow and traditional Greek way. People are really friendly. Food tastes great and portions are huge. There has been people in Kalymnos for a long time, and that that history still remains.

Today we drove to Chora. Chora was the capital of Kalymnos for centuries, and was deliberately built away from the sea in an effort to avoid the pirates that plundered the Mediterranean for many years.
In Chora is located The Castle of Chora/ the Great Castle . It is located 3km from seashore, high up in top of mountain. To get there you have to climb hundreds stone stairs at windy mountain. It is definitely worth an effort, views from there and remainings of The Great Castle are stunning.

Soon as we got up there, we noticed massive dark clouds lurking behind mountaintops. Soon it begun seems to be dangerous to stay in mountain top in increasing strong wind and upcoming thunderstorm.
Quickly we headed down the stairs and we were lucky enough to be on scooter when the raining started.

We drove to city of Pothia to find some shelter during storm. Raining get stronger and soon roads were turning to rivers. We got surrounded by water in a small platform but then I was rescued. My Darling swept me off my feet and carried me to nearest coffee house for have hot and strong coffee. My hero! :D
Storm was strong but short. Soon we went to look for dinner in Pothia's narrow streets, where small tavernas and ouzeries were next to another.

Photo of day is taken from our hotel room balcony at evening. Sky was still cloudy and sunset was quite ominous colored.
