Future cheetah Conservationist!

Little does this gorgeous Anatolian Sheep Dog pup know the important role he will play in protecting cheetahs when he grows up. Today I visited my lovely friend Caz who works for the Cheetah Conservation Fund near Otjiwarongo.

The centre breeds these dogs. They grow up with goats from the day are born and thus become bonded to them and very protective of the herd which makes them an excellent guard dog against cheetahs. The dogs give off a very loud warning bark at any predators that come near the herd and this enough to scare off a cheetah. No loss of livestock = happy farmers = happy cheetahs :-).

I was allowed to come in the pen with all the puppies but was under strict instructions not to touch or cuddle them! Tough job!

Day 6 - Total distance travelled 1703 kms.
