The Icelandic Sagas - The Wild Wild West

Today we travelled to the Western Fjords. The landscape became quite rugged again and although we didn't go far, the road follows the finger like coast winding around the fjords with the occasional venture over the top of one. It is quite an isolated place and not many people live out this way. When I asked our driver what they did out here she said they "made babies". In fact, there is agriculture (sheep) and fishing in places.

There are a lot of felled logs which have washed up here escaping rivers from Siberia. Apparently the farmers who own the land to the sea have the rights on the drift wood and it is quite prized. There is also the usual plastic bottles, fishing ropes and bits and pieces on the shoreline. There have been a few occasions when a Polar bear has landed in this area two catching an Iceberg from Greenland. I don't know whether that is really true but that is what we were told.

Just before we arrived at our destination, The Hotel Djupavik, we passed a mountain and ran into a snow storm. It has been hovering on 0C most of the day and as I type this I can hear the snow beating at my window. The forecast is for improving weather but I am yet to be convinced.

A big thank you again for the very kind response to the last blip and of course honoured to be a staff pick.
