Michaelmas Fair

Love it or hate it you can't avoid Abingdon's Michaelmas Fair that dates back to medieval times. It is still the longest street fair in Europe, stretching for a mile from the town centre.

It arrives on Sunday and is open until very late on Monday and Tuesday. It causes complete disruption to bus services, traffic, children's sleep, etc.
Local shop owners don't like it as they can have no deliveries during this period. Kids (and many adults!) absolutely love it. Teachers hate it too as all children living within a 3 mile radius work themselves up into a frenzy of wild anticipation.

It's an Abingdon tradition to stroll the entire length on Sunday and watch them setting up. ...and it was a glorious day to do so. More pics here
