Le Mausolee Royal de Mauretanie

Today has been a fascinating day exploring Algeria, starting with a visit to this Mausoleum built in the 2nd Century BC and continuing with a walk around the Roman ruins on the coast at Tipasa. On the return to Algiers we had an exciting Police escort through the traffic jams weaving in and out of cars. For the afternoon we returned to Algiers and had a guided walk through the Casbah. The highlights were a visit to a rooftop terrace in a traditional house to get a lovely panoramic view of Algiers and also watching the children parading a sheep around, due to be sacrificed at Eid.
