The Icelandic Sagas - Icicles

It's been a rather amazing day. After breakfast we had a short tour of the old herring factory where we were staying at Djupavik by the German Klaus who was working at the hotel. How it was he was working there I didn't find out but we all had him pegged as a Bond villain. Our destination today was Ísafjörður. Leaving Djupavik we travelled over icy roads and snow covered fjords and mountains. As we travelled south and then further west the snow cleared but it was still cold as many of the waterfalls had frozen. In a fjord quite close to Ísafjörður there was this glorious colour and only the edge of this waterfall was frozen and icy. If you look close you can see the icicles on the edge of it. It must have been somewhat more protected because there was this glorious autumn colour. As we were loading back into the truck I saw a Minke whale quite close to shore and we followed it for a while along the fjord. Earlier we had seen some seals and there is the usual assortment of Eider ducks and gulls.

Our final shoot was near Ísafjörður. By that time the snow was falling down heavily. Those fat juicy snowflakes that don't quite melt but built up. As I type this it is still snowing so I wonder what tomorrow will bring. We have more mountain roads to cross and there is talk of road closures.
