Helen McCook

Tonight we had an excellent talk by Helen McCook on the missing textile for the Mackintosh Music Cabinet.

On the original Mackintosh watercolour it shows an embroidered curtain on the lower half of the cabinet which is now long lost.

The Glasgow Guild who own the Cabinet were introduced to Helen McCook who teaches at the Royal College of Needlepoint at Hampton Court. She has authored a book on goldwork and has worked on many projects worldwide including embroidering Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, veil and shoes.

Helen also has an affinity with Mackintosh. After a visit to see the cabinet and the watercolour in the Hunterian Art Gallery she was keen to undertake the project of creating the textile design. We very much look forward to seeing the process and art of this traditional skill. Helen teaches embroidery regularly in Glasgow at the Art Club on Bath Street.

The Mackintosh Music Cabinet is currently on display at the Mackintosh Church.
