Personal Catches of Eye

Rewarded with a View.

We set off from Hrafntinnusker the next day in better conditions, able to dry damp clothes by hanging them off the rucksacks to dry in the pleasant breeze.

After about two hours we were given this amazing transitional view, from the rounded orange and yellow hills with steam vents and snow holes to an emerald green spread of mountains and a lake.

As we climbed steeply down into this new landscape the weather turned on us once again. By the time we reached that lake called Aftavatn after 12km the wind was so fierce we were unable to camp at the hut there.

We had to walk a further 5km to the next hut at Hvanngil. The gusts of wind stopped us in our tracks several times, even pushed us to our knees, we were soaked to the skin again. When given a knee deep river to wade across we didn't even bother to remove trousers and boots as they were so wet already!

We arrived exhausted at Hvanngil where there was thankfully room for us to stay inside the mountain cabin.

A tough day.
