Millipede

We escaped our millionaire's lifestyle for a proper, earthy hike up the big mountain in search of fresh air and coco de mer.

We didn't find any of the latter, but did encounter plenty of millipedes.

I had a good look at this one, and whilst it was certainly pretty leggy, there's no way there were a million of them - or even a thousand. Apparently the most legs they've ever counted is 750, and they're only born with 6!

She wasn't easy to examine as she kept curling up to protect her soft belly. It seems it's not just me who has this effect: they do the same when any randy male tries it on. Apparently he then massages her back with his many feet to loosen her up, but I didn't try it...

But it must work out ok, as they've been going something like 400 odd million years - they were the very first land animal. So I said sorry and put her back - after all she was here first.
