Rich and salty

After the weekend's various excitements it was a dull day both outside (weather) and inside (long meeting under the headset). Mr H went off to Musselburgh bird-tracking.

At some point I was tidying up in the kitchen and found that the marble slab we use for pastry type things seemed to be solidly cemented to the worktop. It was tricky to shift it even using a narrow knife blade to get beneath it. Once it moved - peeuuw! Some nam pla had evidently got spilled and oozed under the slab a few days ago and it had set like concrete. Once released the odour of twelve months plus a few days was released. I spent some time trying to get rid of it, not entirely successfully. So my abiding memory of today will be the redolent odour of ancient anchovies.
