Third Year Abroad

We did manage to get up early enough on Sunday in order to do a bit of the Alhambra before Ben had to leave. He had been before so I wasn't totally neglecting Granada's, and possibly Spain's, biggest tourist attraction! Despite the early hour, it was probably the busiest I've seen, completely swarming with tour groups. Unfortunately, as it was too much of an impromptu visit to book, we didn't have tickets so we could only do the un-ticketed areas. Which is not a lot. There's a couple of shops, moorish baths, a church and, probably the most spectacular part, the Palacio de Carlos V. One of the largest buildings in the Alhambra, it looks a little like the colosseum in that it was never finished and so has no roof. After trying (and failing) to walk straight into the ticketed areas, we ended up (once again) on the terrace of the Alhambra Palace Hotel. The view was even more amazing this time, as it was still early enough for there to be a haze over the mountains. Would have uploaded that photo instead, but I feel there have been enough of views for a while. Also this one kind of makes me laugh, the helpful tourist who took it for us was determined for there not to be any people in the background and so spent ages timing it so this one guy was hidden behind a column. If you look carefully you can still just about see him...
