SundaySkies #1 – Second Valley Beach

Another very busy Sunday, starting off by a visit to nearby Scotch College for its open day. This expensive private school has pretty much everything from a working farm - cattle, chickens, alpacas, sheep, chooks, a poly-tunnel full of veggies, and an orchard plus historic old class rooms.

It is an amazing place and was formerly the private home and property of one of the founder families of Adelaide.

From there we headed south to visit the beaches of Second Valley and Cape Jervis. Cape Jervis is the departure point for Kangaroo Island, but it didn't take too much of our time, after a picnic lunch, because we spent most of our time at Second Valley exploring the jetty, and walkways to the rocky beaches and coves.

It's a fantastic place to visit, with many interesting pathways and jagged rocks to pick your way across to the bay on the other side. An absolute heaven for photographers.

Worth a look in large.

Second Valley is a tiny coastal town of 200 people on the Fleurieu Peninsula which runs south of Adelaide. The name “Second” is derived from being the next valley north of Rapid Bay, the initial camp on the South Australian mainland of Colonel William Light, our first surveyor.

The beach is a popular scuba diving destination and has a protected marine park with big signs, “No Spear Fishing”. Despite its small size, Second Valley has been rated as one of Australia's top ten beaches.

For Lenna’s SundaySkies challenge, I took this shot late afternoon as the tide was coming in. This area is one of our most stunning pieces of coastline with extremely old rock formations. I am calling this a sky shot - with rocky coast line!
