Poetry .....

..... open mic night.


I hadn't any plans for this evening so after work had a walk down to the local bookshop to see what events were still available at the literature festival this evening. The only one not sold out was the last event of the festival, an open mic poetry and short story event being held at the playhouse just a short walk from my house.

I went along with my neighbour Paddy who has been to loads of the lit fest events this year writing reviews. The night had 20 poets/performers, some were seasoned performers and others were getting up on stage to read their words for the first time. Poetry isn't usually my thing but some of the poems read out tonight were really funny ( my favourite was called tent poles of passion ).

Each person was give only three minutes to read out their piece ( thankfully in some cases ). A few fluffed their lines and others completely forgot the words half way through. most could be seen visibly shaking but there were a few that shone out and they were the ones that got awarded the three prizes ( £200 for the winner, that's almost the same hourly rate as a premiership footballer ).

I took a portrait of the compare of tonight's event called Zodwa but have decided to blip a candid of two of tonight's performers in a quiet moment before they got up to do their three minutes. So today's blip is the .....
