Sunday 13 May 2001: Arriving by the back door

On our first wander round Siracusa, we managed to almost miss the most spectacular sights - like the duomo - by walking round the more run-down areas first.

At one point, if we'd turned right instead of left, we'd have been in the main square in a minute, rather than an hour. I liked the slightly shabby part of town called Ortygia, though.
