Pretty Girl

Female Northern Cardinal. This species was named after the red robes worn by Roman Catholic cardinals. They are aggressive birds and both sexes are accomplished songsters singing all year not just in the breeding season. Seeds make up the main part of their diet although insects are eaten.

In the late Summer, early Fall the youngsters born during the summer form small flocks of 10 to 15 or so birds. They Hang out together and fly from one yard to the next, at least in my neighborhood, visiting feeders and birdbaths.

I sat in my yard this afternoon with one thought in mind...Get a nice photo of a Cardinal! 45 minutes and probably 45 shots later...this Pretty Girl :)
