Chrysanthemum

Follow my leader

Late this afternoon we made a special trip to photograph Skipton’s Holy Trinity Church under floodlight, with a short walk along the canal to fill in the time until the lights came on. The church is located on a rise behind a high wall, with entrances secured by wrought iron gates, but I had no sooner started to photograph it than the verger appeared, rattling a bunch of keys, to usher us out of the churchyard. This was half an hour before the official closing time. His reason…he had to be home in time to watch ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. Bruce Forsyth and co. have a great deal to answer for, and although I politely complied with the verger’s request, my thoughts, despite being on hallowed ground, were far from charitable. This is a photograph, taken before going to the church, of a couple of swans swimming on the canal amongst the fallen autumn leaves.
