Judy Murray's proposed tennis centre

Well, we have just come back from a Public meeting in Dunblane looking at the history and proposed development of Park of Keir, a designed landscape between Bridge of Allan and Dunblane and part of the Greenbelt.

This was no ordinary meeting.

It had been organised by Councillor Mark Ruskell, following a proposal by Judy Murray (yes Andy Murray’s mother) to build a tennis centre on the site.
The developers she is working with have already had two high profile exhibitions of their outline plans.

While there are no objections to tennis courts nobody wants to see houses.

Yet that is the developers trump card: if you want a tennis centre then you must agree to a 100 houses, golf course, hotel and driving range.

For over 20 years the owners have tried to develop this for housing and I have been involved in two campaigns SPOKE (Stop Park of Keir) and RAGE (Residents Against Greenbelt Erosion) to oppose it.

It has led to two Public Enquiries and so far we have seen off the housing.

Over 40 turned up for this meeting. Even though it was held on Judy Murray’s home turf, (Dunblane Tennis and squash club) the place where Andy learnt to play tennis, not one person spoke up in favour of the development.

Could Judy Murray’s legacy be that she was instrumental in destroying this historic designed landscape, the Greenbelt between Bridge-of-Allan and Dunblane?
