Eastern Rosella

The Eastern Rosella is an Australian parakeet introduced to New Zealand in the early 1900's. Mr Google tells me that that they were first released in Dunedin which surprised me. there is apparently only a small population down there, the main numbers being in the northern half of the North Island. Certainly around Whangaparaoa they are very common, adding a lovely flash of colour, but VERY difficult to get close enough to for a good shot.
