Alphabetical Soup in Inverclyde

A picture arrives in the inbox from Absent Voices artist, Ryan King.

"I'm just after making a mess of the kitchen worktop with mustard, tomato sauce and chopped ham 'n' pork in the name of design and art," says he.

As it says on the tin, this home-cooked flyer advertises a gig which Ryan and fellow Absent Voices artist, Alan Carlisle's band, The Alphabetical Order Orchestra, is doing on November 23rd at the Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock.

Ryan is known to many music fans as the drummer in Greenock-based band, My Latest Novel. The band toured the UK with Arab Strap, Low, British Sea Power and Joanna Newsom, as well as opening for the Pixies at Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh.

The Alphabetical Order Orchestra is an entirely new side-project featuring a slimmed down line-up and a 'more sprightly, carefree direction'.

It's part of Inverclyde Scottish Folk and Roots Festival, so expect so expect sweet sweet musical sounds...

The Beacon Arts Centre is a brilliant addition to the cultural landscape of Inverclyde and according to Absent Voices' Yvonne Lyon, who sang there recently supporting Karen Matheson, the acoustics are fantastic.
