Tuesday 5 June 2007: On the horizon - WORLD'S LARGEST BALL OF TWINE
I happened upon this interesting hillside today at a rest stop, which I must say was far more impressive than the world's largest twine ball ("made by one man", they made sure to italicize this on the sign) that originally prompted my spontaneous mini-trip.
As you are soon to observe, roadside kitsch is one of my weaknesses. But much to my disappointment, the eight-foot ball (really just a pile) of twine hilariously enclosed by a glass-covered gazebo could not have been a more literal description of itself. It even had its own gift shop, which of course, was closed.
At least I can cross that one off my list of places to go before I die.
