The sea onion poses a question

We drove to the coast today. It was grey and windy at the beach. The wind does most amazing art with the sand and other available material, as in this blip.
All of Oregon's ocean beaches are publicly owned, result of a landmark ruling in 1967. Twice a year a volunteer "beach clean up" is held, where thousands of people comb the beaches removing tons of trash, plastic mostly. We seem to have a hard time making it to the organized clean up days, but for some years now, whenever we go, we do our own "beach clean up". It's fun and rewarding.
