Tree selection

Today was a much calmer day, we went about our usual December business, selecting a fresh Christmas tree and putting our lights in the windows. The tree will be cut later in the month we'll set it up and decorate it before our first guests from Sweden arrive.

T's nephew was out on a day hike in Pinkham Notch, NH, at the base of Mt. Washington. He is experienced and was well prepared with good gear for harsh conditions. Mt. Washington is a dangerous trickster, with some of the worst weather in the world and dramatic weather shifts as well. He became disoriented in severe white out conditions just after noon, lost his bearings trying to backtrack and ended up spending a night in the wind swept cold with freezing conditions. The trail he finally made it to had been washed out by a hurricane and was almost impassible. Rescue teams tried to locate him, and his fresh tracks gave us hope that he had survived the night. He walked out himself after 31 hours, in good condition.

For teh Record,
This day came in warmer with damp air and showers.

All hands are healthy.
