Itchy ball seeds

The most commonly grown species in South Africa is Platanus x hispanica (London plane). It produces 'itchy ball' seed heads and is commonly grown in gardens and along streets.

Male and female flowers are separate, but on the same plant. Hmm. Will have to think on this one.

Much to be said about this beautiful tree, and the leaves turning from green to yellow to deep red in autumn are always spectacular.

These few itchy ball seeds were gathered from underneath a plane tree in our garden and makes a lovely display in the wooden bowl.

I have a remark too make about the name: itchy ball seeds - but best left unsaid.
