Saved by the Broons

Thank goodness The Broons have come to my rescue on a day with a dearth of blips.
To those of you unacquainted with this uniquely Scottish family, they were a creation of Dudley D Watkins, and their antics came out every week in comic form between 1936 and 1996 in the Sunday Post, a paper widely read in Scotland then.

Although the creator was from Dundee, or as His Lordship would say, 'Broughty Ferry actually', the Broons who reportedly lived at 10 Glebe Street could just as easily be from Glasgow, or Edinburgh. They were recognised as being familiar all over the Central Belt of Scotland and as far north as Aberdeen.

There has been a resurgence of Broons' paraphernalia over the last few years, and Ma Broon ( she, the buxom matriarch in the red spotted dress being kissed by Pa Broon) has published several books of helpful household hints and featuring old fashioned recipes.

His Lordship is a big fan, and can recount all the names of the family. In fact I suspect that he still secretly reads their annuals behind His Door....... sad but true.
