A Main Street Christmas, Schomberg, Ontario

Schomberg is the small town I grew up near. My home was a small farm on the nearby sideroads but I took the bus to school in this little town. It has grown a lot but it keeps its olde tyme small town Main Street. About 15 or so years ago, the townsfolk began A Main Street Christmas on the first Saturday in December. They close the street for a parade and for the rest of the afternoon and evening it is a pedestrian way with Victorian-era style carolers, hot cider, popcorn, magicians, jugglers, musicians, roasted chestnuts, and local crafters and bakers doing fundraising. Feeling cold? Then warm up by one of the oil drums burning wood. Nice and toasty. You can bring your own marshmallows, if you like. Watch out for the reindeer. They may snatch them away.

Linda posted the Victorian ladies in the parade.

Trivia: Schomberg's old Main Street is sometimes used in movies, TV shows, and commercials. When the old David Carradine show Kung Fu got updated in the 1990s as Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, it was shot in and around Toronto. In at least one episode, they filmed in Schomberg. I recognized it right away. It was standing in for the American home town of Kwai Chang Caine's Shaolin temple. That was pretty cool. The original 1970s show was one of my all-time favourites as a kid.
