an itching in my thumbs

got off to a relatively quick start this morning for the 10.5 hours driving from austin to santa fe. it's mostly a boring drive - a lot of west texas, feedlots, etc - with lots of flashbacks from when i rode my bicycle the very same way when i went to alaska, but the sense of knowing we were finally on vacation was powerful.

in my never-ending quest to one day have the time and money to travel the US and photograph post offices in small towns and big cities before they disappear, i present to you the post office in wingate, texas.

in lots of small texas towns there will be a sign on the main road through town directing you toward the post office. we took the advice of this one and turned, finding this quaint little outpost.

got into santa fe not too late but tired. we stayed at the el rey inn, which i would highly recommend - it's a renovted old route 66 motor court motel. classic new mexican dinner - nice and spicy and then retired early. no internet - so got behind.
