Particles & Waves

Hairy Woodpecker all puffed up

It was -16C this morning when I went out to feed the birds. A chickadee was waiting for me so I put some seed in my right hand and held it out. It landed on my hand right away, paused a second or two, grabbed a peanut, paused again, then flew off. That was very cool.

That black-capped chickadee, this woodpecker, and all the other birds today were counted in the first weekend of our citizen science bird count at Project FeederWatch.
