The restored conservatory, Wentworth Castle Garden

I think the restoration cost almost 4 million pounds. The old conservatory was taken down piece by piece and new parts cast at a local foundry. It's been an amazing restoration project and it's good to see it completed. I think it should bring in lots of visitors to the gardens.

If you do come you might want to make alternative arrangements for food unless you just want cakes. The prepared food, when it arrives, is good, the service was willing and pleasant yesterday but why no baked potatoes or chips (fries) or a general sense of efficiency!

The last day for my brother's visit. He's now on a plane somewhere over the Atlantic battling into the next batch of wind and bad weather that are heading our way!

I've posted a photo of the information board that accompanies the statue of the black slave here. There are quite a few country houses in our part of the country - all of them owing a legacy to the slave-trade. Not something to celebrate. Neither was the way that poor people wrecked their lives down coal mines which was the fate of many men in our part of Yorkshire (and women and children) including my grandfather.
