Saved, We Hope

A hatch of tiny turtles happened during our volleyball game this morning bring the action to a halt. We scrambled around picking up those who had made it from the nest and then dug down for those still emerging. All were placed into the large kiddie pool set up for that very reason. There they would stay until dusk when they would be released into the sea. All this effort in an attempt to increase the survival chances for these little critters, which we have heard is less than 1 in 100. The sand around the court is littered with the carcasses of those who didn't receive assistance from well meaning volleyball players. It is a long way across very hot, dangerous sand for these young turtles, so any help should increase their chances of returning as adults to start the process over again.
