I was online window shopping tonight looking round for a new flashgun. I'm undecided whether to get a better regular flashgun, or go for a ring flash. I've found both at a good price.

So, I've decided to play around with the flashgun I've got, work out how it works, and work out what I need.

Starting tonight, manually firing the flash from in front of the camera, behind the subject. This a quick flash in the middle of a long 10 sec exposure.

Incidentally, I'm still reading the book...
