Building Apace

This morning took me to a shopping mall for weekly provisions. When I first arrived in Istanbul in 1990, there was but one modern mall in all of Istanbul, called Galleria, along with the two historical malls, the Grand Bazaar and the Egyptian (Spice) Bazaar. Now there are 89 malls in Istanbul with 400 across Turkey. This development reflects the modernization of Istanbul and of Turkey, which some call its "Dubai-ization". This photo is of one of many skyscrapers being built throughout this city of cranes. Many of them have fascinating architectural lines, often bulging from the small footprint on the ground to show a sail-like protuberance or as in this one, a middle-aged paunch perhaps?
