The Driver's Seat

As I am sure I have mentioned before, we live on a small farm in Connecticut. It's been a farm since 1767. One of the many remarkable things about this property is that the same family -- the Hatches -- lived here, generation after generation, from the 1700's to the late 1970's. Consequently, many of the original features of the house and property have been well preserved.

I have no idea how old this rusty hay rake is, but I'd venture to guess it's been sitting here for close to a century. Sitting on that seat, holding the reins, and guiding the horses across the fields must have been a bumpy ride.
