Thursday 15 October 2009: Overheard in Leith
The route I walk to work takes me through a gaggle of mums outside the Fort Primary School. I'm usually close enough just long enough to pick out a sentence of their conversation. The themes are remarkably similar:
"...ah told him he wouldnae grass anyone up but he didnae believe me..."
"...he got refused bail, I dinnae ken what ahm gonnae dae..."
"...it's pure ootae order, ahm no speaking to her again..."
The route I walk to the shop at lunchtime takes me past Bonita's Cafe, outside of which you'll always find a group of grey haired, grey skinned ladies, drinking grey coffee, smoking and putting the world to rights. I similarly catch a sentence of their conversation, today's was particularly memorable:
"...they'll no operate on her the size she is..."
I should start recording them all on a blog or something.
Oh.
Any Leithers able to finish the sentence in the picture?
