Lyceum Cinema Govan

After a meeting at the House for an Art Lover this morning, I came back through Govan.

I have been meaning to photograph the Lyceum, as it is in a sad state and on the Buildings at Risk Register. This renowned cinema was designed by the architects, CJ McNair and Elder, the Lyceum opened in December 1938 and was built to seat 2,600.

The Govan Lyceum is a major feature on the Govan streetscape and is viewed as the best preserved example of McNair and Elder's cinema work. It is also an important and rare example of a streamlined International Modern super-cinema.

I believe the interior contains many surviving features of interest and continues the streamlined design of the exterior. There have been recent discussions regarding the re-use and restoration of the building.
